Rabbi Yoel Glick Speaks on Jewish Meditation

Rabbi Yoel Glick, a renowned teacher of Jewish spirituality, visited Hartford Seminary on Nov. 11 and 12 to give a workshop, speak to students, and lecture to the public.

Rabbi Glick has been guiding seekers on the path of meditation and Jewish spirituality for more than thirty years. He is the director of Daat Eylon, an online center for spiritual training. He has taught in the United States, Canada, Israel, Asia and Europe to audiences of all Jewish denominations as well as in a variety of interfaith settings. He is the author of†Seeking the Divine Presence: The Three Pillars of a Jewish Spiritual Life†and†Living the Life of Jewish Meditation.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Rabbi Glick guided participants through†five categories of meditation techniques: stilling the mind, visualization, concentration, mantra chanting, and contemplation. On Tuesday evening, he spoke to students in Prof. Yehezkel Landau’s class on Practical Kabbalah: Jewish Mysticism, Meditation, and Morality.

On Wednesday evening, Rabbi Glick gave a public lecture about his newest book, The Life of Jewish Meditation, and talked about the role of meditation in a Jewish spiritual life.

“Meditation is a potent spiritual tool,” he said. “It helps us tap into light, energy, consciousness.”
