Supermax Prison Documentary Screening

The Worst of the Worst movie poster

Hartford Seminary will host a showing of The Worst of the Worst: Portrait of a Supermax Prison, which depicts Connecticut’s sole supermax prison in Somers, where many inmates are held in solitary confinement for months and even years at a time. After the movie, Prof. Lucinda Mosher, Director of HartSem’s Multifaith Chaplaincy Program, will facilitate a discussion about it. Ivy Wang, a producer of the film, will be available via Skype to join in the conversation.

The Worst of the Worst,  is an official selection of the United Nations Association Film Festival and the Global Peace Film Festival. The film has been screened for students, legislators, inmates and others across the US, UK and Canada. Hard-hitting interviews with a range of experts and administrators are interwoven with the powerful stories of those who spend their days within the walls of Northern: inmates and correctional officers.

Ivy Wang, JD 2013, directed the Yale Visual Law Project from 2012-2013. In addition to The Worst of the Worst, she has produced forthcoming documentaries on policing reform and immigration detention. Prior to law school, she co-produced and directed Guanzhou Modernized, a documentary for the Asia Society on the fate of a Chinese fishing village slated for demolition. Ivy is currently a Liman Public Interest Law Fellow based in New Orleans, where she represents families affected by the criminal justice system and is engaged in local film projects.

The screening will take place at the Martin and Aviva Budd Interfaith Building, 60 Lorraine St., Hartford.
